Leanne Terrace

About the Author

Meet Leanne Terrace

Leanne Terrace was helping run a 600-person security agency in sub-Saharan Africa when the country collapsed into civil war. Payroll was still due. Contracts still had to be honored. Every theory she’d learned plus years of her own experience got tested at once, and her question got sharper: what keeps people thinking and making good decisions together when the pressure is on?

She’d been chasing that question long before the war. It’s why she studied psychology, then took an MBA at UBC’s Sauder School of Business on a Dean’s Entrance Fellowship. She wanted to understand people, team dynamics, and then build workplaces around what she found.

The same pattern kept showing up. Smart people, stuck companies, thinking jammed at the top while everyone below waited for permission. Thirty years of experimenting with what unsticks them and shifts teams toward brilliant outcomes produced what fills Built to Think: practices tested in rooms where paychecks were due.

Today she coaches CEOs and leadership teams to build companies that think, and helps organizations use AI without weakening the human judgment, trust, and ownership that good decisions require.
